Brendan Rodgers vs Antonio Conte: Records compared as Man Utd look to replace Solskjaer as boss if he keeps losing https://ift.tt/3bkiCGf
MANCHESTER UNITED are considering Brendan Rodgers and Antonio Conte as a replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – but how do they compare?
The Norwegian, 48, is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford amid a horror run of form.
United are winless in their last four Premier League game – and most-recently were annihilated 5-0 at the hands of their fiercest rivals, Liverpool.
Red Devils chiefs held crunch talks on Sunday night and Monday, but Solskjaer clung on to his job – for now.
The former Cardiff and Molde boss will be in the hotseat for Saturday evening’s clash against equally beleaguered Tottenham.
But Solskjaer knows a defeat in North London could see him at the job centre come Monday morning.
Man Utd have drawn-up a four-man shortlist to replace him, should he be sacked.
Conte, Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Erik ten Hag are all being tipped as potential Solskjaer replacements.

But ex-Chelsea chief Conte and former Reds boss Rodgers are the most likely.
Conte, 52, has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan shortly after guiding them to their first Serie A crown in 11 years.
Meanwhile Rodgers continues to thrive at Leicester – and even guided the Foxes to a 4-2 win over United earlier this month.
Conte has also managed Chelsea, Juventus, Italy, Siena, Atalanta, Bari and Arezzo during his career.
Rodgers, 48, has enjoyed spells at Celtic, Liverpool, Swansea, Reading, Watford and Chelsea’s reserves.
But who has enjoyed a better career?
Conte has overseen more games than Rodgers with 279 to his Northern Irish rival’s 255.
The Italian has also scored more goals, conceded fewer and boasts a far superior win-rate of 67.7 per cent to Rodgers’ 47.8 per cent.
However, both bosses have won nine trophies – with Rodgers most-recently winning the FA Cup and Community Shield with Leicester this year.
Rodgers also won two Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic and came agonisingly close to leading Liverpool to their first-ever Prem title in 2013-14.
Conte did most of his damage with Juventus, winning three Serie A crowns in Turin.
But he also won a Premier League title with Chelsea and a further Scudetto at Inter.
Both could easily be considered an upgrade on Solskjaer – with the current United chief yet to get his hands on a major trophy, despite winning six Prem titles as Sir Alex Ferguson’s ‘super-sub’.
Solskjaer must surely now avoid defeat against Tottenham if he has any chance of keeping his job into November.

Watch heartwarming moment hero doctor is given standing ovation for saving Newcastle fan’s life after Spurs game halted https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
A HERO doctor received a standing ovation after saving a fan’s life at St James’ Park.
The Newcastle supporter acted after a fellow fan suffered a suspected heart attack in the stands on Sunday.
— JaiP (@JaiP72) October 17, 2021
The doc leapt from his seat to perform CPR before medics could get to the patient during Newcastle’s Premier League clash with Tottenham.
And the Toon Army were quick to show their appreciation as they applauded him once his job was done.
The doc was reportedly 30 rows away when the incident took place just before half-time.
Identified online as a junior A&E doctor from University Hospital of North Tees, the fan swooped before a defibrillator arrived.
Ref Andre Marriner stopped play as Spurs’ defender Sergio Reguilon spotted the emergency from the pitch.
Eric Dier then ran over to the dugout to call for a medical staffer to sprint into the stands with a crucial defibrillator.

The Magpies later confirmed the male supporter was ‘stable and responsive’ in hospital.
A club statement read: “NUFC can confirm that a supporter who required emergency medical treatment during today’s game at St James’ Park is stable and responsive in hospital.”
The incident happened two minutes before half-time, with the visitors 2-1 up thanks to goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane.
Speaking during the break in play, Sky Sports pundit David Ginola called on all fans to learn CPR.
The Frenchman himself suffered a heart attack back in 2017 and said it is ‘vital’ that more people know how to give the life-saving treatment.

Tottenham line up Alvaro Morata transfer with Chelsea flop replacing Harry Kane if England star walks out in the summer https://ift.tt/3DvpHQc
TOTTENHAM have made Alvaro Morata their ‘No1 priority’ to replace Harry Kane should their star man quit next summer, according to reports.
Spurs managed to cling on to the England captain, 28, in the summer but know they risk losing him in 2022.
Kane has long made it known he’s keen to get his hands on some silverware – with the North London side’s drought stretching back to the 2008 League Cup.
Manchester City were expected to make a move last summer in a deal worth around £150million – but instead splashed £100m on Three Lions pal Jack Grealish.
But Tottenham know Kane is almost certain to leave next summer – particularly if the club fail to win any trophies.
And CalcioMercato claim Spurs director Fabio Paratici is chasing ex-Chelsea flop Morata to replace Kane.
Morata, also 28, is currently in the second year of a two-season loan stint at Juventus from parent club Atletico Madrid.
The Italian giants have a £30m option to buy the Spanish striker next summer.

But Tottenham could look to snap him up for a similar fee, allowing the club to pour the remainder of the £100m-plus income from Kane into the rest of the squad.
Of course, Morata is infamous for his poor spell at Chelsea between the summer 2017 and January 2019.
Yet the Juve man could well prove a decent replacement for Kane.
On the face of it, the stats make for damning reading.
Since the start of the 2014-15 season, Kane has scored 163 times, with Morata way back at 77.
But in terms of goals per 90 minutes, Morata proves he can find the net with consistency.
In fact, the ex-Real Madrid star averages 0.55 top-flight goals per 90 – better than a goal every two games and not far off Kane’s record of 0.73.
On top of that, Morata boasts a far better assist record – averaging 0.25 per 90 minutes compared to Kane’s 0.15.
The two strikers have similar shot conversion rates – with Kane (18.1 per cent) narrowly above Morata (17.7 per cent).
Morata creates more chances per game (1.31 vs Kane’s 1.14) and passes more accurately (73.4 per cent vs Kane’s 71.7 per cent).
So while Tottenham fans may not be thrilled with the idea of swapping Kane for Morata, there’s reason to believe he could do a great job back in the English capital.

How England could line up vs Hungary in World Cup qualifier with Southgate to make host of changes and Mount starting https://ift.tt/3iUt3En
ENGLAND boss Gareth Southgate is set to name his strongest possible XI for tonight’s clash with Hungary.
The Three Lions smashed Andorra 5-0 to edge closer to qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
But Southgate knows he must likely win TWO of his remaining three games to secure qualification.
And with high-flying Albania still to come next month, the boss will want to grab all three points at home to Hungary.
England thumped the Hungarians 4-0 away last month with the match marred by sickening scenes of racism aimed at Raheem Sterling and Jude Bellingham.
Southgate is likely to recall his big guns having rested a number of them for the win on Andorra’s plastic pitch.
Harry Kane will certainly replace Tammy Abraham up front, while Declan Rice, Jordan Henderson and Mason Mount should return in midfield.
In goal, Jordan Pickford is set to come in for Sam Johnstone despite his impressive midweek performance.

Kyle Walker and Luke Shaw – fitness depending – will likely replace Kieran Trippier and Ben Chilwell, with Tyrone Mings named over Conor Coady alongside John Stones.
In the wide positions, Southgate will likely opt for Manchester City duo Sterling and Jack Grealish.
But with Sancho and Foden – albeit in a deeper, more central role – excelling against Andorra, they could well snatch a spot in the starting XI at Wembley.
Fortunately for Southgate, he knows whichever line up he picks should be good enough to beat Hungary, such is the strength in depth in the current squad.
Incredibly the Three Lions are so strong they should be able to manage without crocked stars such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Kalvin Phillips.
Southgate even revealed he feels like he ‘commits a crime’ every time he picks a team, knowing he will have to bench an incredibly talented star or three.
Ahead of the Hungary game, the England boss said: “I have a headache and commit a crime every time I pick a team.
“We have such strong competition for places.
“There were lots of players who did their own confidence and reputation the world of good the other day (against Andorra) and that is pleasing to see.
“There will be changes. We’ve got a very strong squad, and we want the squad to feel involved.
“It is important they know their value and can contribute.”
