Sam Oji dead at 35: Former Arsenal youth star passes away following battle with illness https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
FORMER Arsenal youth prospect Sam Oji has died at the age of 35.
The Londoner – a husband and father – is said to have been battling illness.
Oji kicked off his career at the Gunners as a teenager in 2000, but failed to make the grade and joined Birmingham.
The defender – the cousin of singer Lemar – also turned out for Doncaster Rovers, Leyton Orient, Bristol Rovers and Hereford United during his career.
Oji was most-recently working as assistant manager at non-league outfit Highgate United, who play in the Midland League Premier Division – the ninth tier of English football.
Tributes have been pouring in for the centre-back since the shock news of his passing.
In a statement, Highgate United wrote: “All it is with a very heavy heart that I am deeply saddened to inform you, that our beloved Captain, Leader and Legend Samuel Oji has sadly passed away.
“The thoughts of all at Highgate United FC are with Sam’s wife, children and family at this very sad time. RIP Oji.”

Former Galway United team-mate Vinny O’Connor added: “Infectious smile, bubbly personality, always friendly and accommodating.
“I only got to work with Sam Oji for one season at GUFC, but he left a lasting impression on me and many others.
“The news this morning is so terribly sad. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP Sam.”

Allegri confirms Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Juventus and is ‘looking for new club’ amid Man City transfer interest https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
CRISTIANO RONALDO has requested to leave Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed.
Manchester City have emerged as the frontrunners for the 36-year-old striker, following three years in Serie A.
Juventus coach Allegri addressed the media on Friday, shortly after the player waved goodbye to his team-mates.
The Italian insisted that he is not upset with Ronaldo, having already dropped him from his line-up for last weekend’s opening game.
He stated: “Yesterday Cristiano told me that he has no intention of continuing at Juventus.
“This is why he will not be called up tomorrow, he did not train yesterday and now we can talk about Empoli. That is the most important thing.”
Allegri likened Ronaldo’s exit to the departures of club legends such as Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane.
He added: “I am absolutely not disappointed.
“[Ronaldo] has made his choice.
“These things pass; Sivori, Platini, Del Piero, Zidane, Buffon have all passed through Juve. Great champions, it is a law of life.
“Juventus remains the most important thing. It has been three years, he has given his contribution, now he leaves and life goes on, as is normal.”
According to the 54-year-old coach who brought Ronaldo to Turin, the Portuguese star insisted he would stay only days ago.
Allegri added: “On Saturday I told him that he would be on the bench at Udinese, he told me he would stay.
“Then there is the transfer market, the situation has changed and it must be accepted – at Juve the players who want to stay must remain.
“It’s simple: we have a good Champions League group to overcome and a lot of things to do with a team that only has to think about improving.
“He told his team-mates this morning. I am not surprised at anything, in football there is the market and there are the needs of individuals.”

There were clearly some empty seats in the ground in what was Southampton’s first capacity crowd in nearly 18 months.
But those in the stadium were given something to shout about after just 30 minutes when Che Adams’ shot was deflected in off Man Utd midfielder Fred.

Neymar’s dream five-a-side team featured Messi who he now plays with at PSG – but he picked Pogba over a keeper https://ift.tt/3oteXes
DREAMS do come true – or at least they do for Neymar.
When asked to pick his perfect five-a-side selection earlier this year he selected Lionel Messi – and now he’s been re-united with him at PSG.
But the Brazilian forgot to select a goalkeeper.
Kylian Mbappe and Eden Hazard made the cut as the Brazilian insisted upon a forward thinking setup that leaves Paul Pogba as the most defensive player.
In fairness, any side facing such a team would probably never get the ball off them anyway.
Another of Neymar’s former Barcelona colleagues Luis Suarez features with Mbappe also joining the winger.
No Brazil stars were selected by the 29-year-old because he was asked not to in the chat with Red Bull.
Neymar also selected a five-a-side team based on retired players and that too showed disregard for all things defence.
Four Premier League players were called up: Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and David Beckham.
Spanish playmaker legend Xavi completed that quintet as once again a goalkeeper went missing.

Neymar could soon be playing alongside both Mbappe and Messi for real.
Messi is due to make his debut for PSG – possibly against Brest tonight.
When he does, it will be arguably the most lethal looking attack ever combined.
